As we’ve been proclaiming, Love is in the Air! it’s February, and we all know how prepped up people have been throughout the Valentine’s Week. You must have given a-gift-a-day for all the days of the week, with a grand gift on 14th. But, take our word for it — you definitely haven’t yet made a truly eternal effort for your beloved.

You must have been hearing a lot about the emergence of blockchain technology and that tiny to enormous companies have been increasingly implementing this technology at the heart of a lot of their processes. Moreover, Bitcoin and Altcoins — a major and the most prominent implementation of the blockchain technology to date is something you must have definitely thought of getting your hands dirty with, if you haven’t yet.

Did you ever fathom that you might, at any point in time, be able to lock your love on the blockchain? Like, literally.

Introducing LoveBlock.io, a web app that allows you to buy and dedicate a lock to your beloved — and, this thing lives on the blockchain — that is, eternally.

On LoveBlock, a lock is an ERC721 architecture based token. This makes the locks non-fungible tokens which means that every lock (token) can be different. You must have already heard about tokens that follow the ERC20 standard where every token is same and equal. Had we followed this, we wouldn’t have been able to create locks that are unique. LoveBlock can create 3,89,50,081 unique locks at the moment. That is a humungous number.

Why so many unique locks?

We had to make LoveBlock to be able to generate so many unique combinations so that you’re not only able to dedicate locks to your beloved, but also invest in them.

LoveBlock gives you the option to forge a new lock from one or more locks that you currently hold. The blueprint of the current locks are taken which signals the characteristics of the new lock to be generated. This not only includes characteristic-quotients (such as Romance, Trust, Friendship and Care) that a lock holds, but also features such as the number of photos and letters it can hold. The more, the merrier — allowing you to sell your newly forged lock at a premium than what you paid to generate it.

Getting Started

To get started with LoveBlock, please visit https://loveblock.io, and perform the following steps:

Sign In: MetaMask is required to sign in to LoveBlock. To download the MetaMask chrome extension, visit https://metamask.io. This step would also ask for more details such as your name, email address and phone number.

You would need some ETH in your MetaMask wallet to start with the Beta Test. We are deploying our Beta on the Rinkeby Test Net. First, click on MetaMask icon, click on Main Ethereum Network, and select Rinkeby Test Net. This will change your current network to Rinkeby.

Open MetaMask by clicking on the extension icon
Click on “Main Ethereum Network”
Click on Rinkeby Test Network

To get some ETH to play with in your MetaMask wallet on the Rinkeby Test Net, visit https://faucet.rinkeby.io/ and follow the steps. Any of the options you choose will give you an ample amount of ETH to start off.

Visit Marketplace: Marketplace is where you can browse the locks that have been put on sale by their owners. You can click on a lock to visit it’s profile where you would get options to buy it. Once you have some ETH in your MetaMask wallet, you would be able to buy a lock.

My Locks: Once you buy a lock, this would be visible in your “My Locks” section. From here, you can click on the lock and again visit its profile where you would get options to Use the Lock or to again put it on sale on the Marketplace. While putting on sale, you have the liberty to set the rate as you want. Anyone willing to buy your lock can do so from the Marketplace itself.

In case you want to Use the Lock to dedicate it to your beloved, you can do so by clicking on the Use button. This will provide you with a pop-up to fill in your beloved’s name, a message, the duration for which you want to put that lock on the blockchain. This also gives you the option to add public or private photos as well as write a letter which you may set as public or private as well. This transaction costs ETH.

The above steps will help you get started with LoveBlock’s Beta Test which will in turn allow you to participate in the Beta Test Bounty. More on it here.

Kindly let us know in the comments if you have any suggestions or face any difficulties.
